Why are so many environmentalist driving cars?

As a long time environmentalist and supporter of regenerative economics via my role at Circanomics, it became evident that cars are a problem. An extension from the archaic 19th century that continues to enslave us to this day. So I got rid of my car. Why? Firstly, there’s no need for it. By embracing the circular economy, we begin to see that shared resources is key to regenerating the planet! Why own something that sits idle 90% of the time and pay for maintenance, fuel, parking, insurance, parking tickets, ding repair, should I keep going?!

Sorry, I researched a link fact above that I learned at my time at University of Cambridge’s program in Circular Economics. It’s 5%, the average car is parked 5% of the time! So what’s the point of owning something you use 5% of the time? This inefficiency is perpetuated by the car imo. Do we need to fill our oversized trunks with shopping bags full of fast fashion? Do people need huge pickup trucks when they work in an office and are scared to get their hands dirty and pick up nothing? It’s all an illusion we’re being sold to take our hard earned money that comes in exchange for our invaluable time to go up the ladder to the wealthy that destroy our planet 🌎!

I refuse to play this game any longer and get on the right side of things. So now I use Lyft, Uber, my bike and public transit to get where I need to go. No more monthly car note bills, no more insurance charges, no more drowning in traffic.Do we need to pack a shopping cart full of food into our trunks, only to end up throwing out a bunch of food waste when it spoils? Really we should be shopping local and leaning on farmers that are linked into CSAs to support local and eat healthier. How much more exercise and less obesity would there be if people walked to their local convenience store?

My sister and I were talking about when we lived In New York City. We both have gained weight due to owning cars in CA and NC respectively. She didn’t own a car in NYC and mine only moved to leave the 5 boroughs. What happened? Moving to the sprawls of newer cities with poor public transit. So owning a car makes you less healthy! Everyone should bike to the gym!I can go on and on and I will on my new podcast Circa Chat, where we talk about protecting human, social and natural resources. Sponsored by Circanomics!

"Cars are parked 95% of the time". Let's check!posted by Paul Barter on February 22, 2013"Most people in transportation focus on the five percent of the time that cars are moving. But the average car is parked 95 percent of the time. I think there's a lot to learn from that 95 percent." Donald Should when asked why he studies parking.
